Attendance Matters: Every Day Is a Day to Learn and Belong

A new school year is a new opportunity for students to learn, grow, and build connections. One of the most important ways families can support that growth is by making regular school attendance a priority.

When students attend school consistently, they have more opportunities to engage in learning, keep up with their classmates, and develop the skills they need to reach their goals. Just as importantly, being at school each day helps students build relationships, participate in activities, and be connected to their school community.

This year, Newport-Mesa Unified School District is putting its new Strategic Plan into action, with a focus on ensuring that every student is challenged to achieve at the highest level while being seen, heard, supported, and safe. Regular attendance supports that vision by helping students stay engaged in their learning and connected to the people and experiences that make school meaningful. Families play an important role in building strong attendance habits. Establishing consistent morning and bedtime routines, planning ahead for appointments and vacations, and talking with your student about the importance of being at school every day can make a difference.

If your family is experiencing challenges that make regular attendance difficult, please reach out to your child’s school. We are here to partner with you and connect you with available support and resources.

Every school day is an opportunity to learn, connect, and grow. Let’s make every day count.
